Raindrop technique is a sequence of anointing with oils and laying on of hands that brings structural and electrical alignment to the body in a relaxing and invigorating manner through the power of essential oils.
Some spinal misalignments are more often caused by viruses or bacteria that lie dormant along the spine. These pathogens create inflammation, which in turn contorts and disfigures the spinal column.
Essential oils are some of the most powerful inhibitors of microbes known, and have the ability to penetrate the skin quickly and pass into bodily tissues to produce amazing therapeutic effects.
Most of the Raindrop oils are high in phenol content capable of warding off potential damaging viruses and bacteria deep within the body while cleansing cellular receptor sites to enhance inter and infra cellular communication and improve overall bodily functions.
It’s a detoxifying process and provides a boost to the immune system. It is used to help realign the spine, reduce stress, and relieve back pain and tension. The technique is highly relaxing, brings balance and harmony to the body, and it is recommended that you take the rest of the day off after a Raindrop session, just to relax your body and slowly ease it back into the real world.
The technique works only on the feet, back and spine by adopting vital flex and feather strokes. It’s a light gentle massage that wakens the nerves, and it’s not a hard deep tissue massage.
Raindrop Technique Development
Dr. Gary Young, developed the Raindrop Technique based on his research of essential oils and their antimicrobial properties, his knowledge of the Vita Flex technique and its reflex points on the feet, and information he gathered on light feather stroking called effleurage and its effect on the muscles and nervous systems.

Raindrop Technique Session
The session begins with using Valor to balance the energy centers of the body, followed by vital flex of the various oils on the spinal reflex points of the feet.
Vital Flex
This technique was developed by the Tibetans thousands of years before acupuncture. It literally means “vitality through reflexes”.
The pressure comes from the fingers. A rolling motion of the finger pads, tips and nails, creates the stimulation similar to how an electric switch or circuit works. The technique is applied to the various reflex points of the body. Foot vital flex in raindrop technique refers to vital flex along the spinal flex points of each foot from the heel of the foot to the end of the big toe.
On the receiver’s back, the oils are then dispensed like drops of rain from a height of about six inches above the back, for the oils to interact with the physical body as well as the energy fields. It is inspired by the Native American belief that raindrops falling from a height may purify and cleanse the body and spirit. The oils are then feather stroked and massaged along the spine and back muscles.
Feather Stroking.
The Lakota practice of effleurage or feather finger stroking is used to distribute healing energy throughout the body. This technique creates a tingling effect for the recipient, commonly causing goose bumps. The purpose of this feathering is to stimulate energy centers and awaken the receptors along the spine.
The entire session may take between sixty to ninety minutes to complete. The oils will continue to work in the body for about another week. Some may experience detoxification during this period in form of more clearing of bowels than usual, releasing of emotions, clearing of the respiratory passageway. Others experience more restful sleep, and loosening of muscles for ease of mobility. It is important to double up water intake during this period to flush out any toxins that the oils have helped to eliminate.
Raindrop Statistical Validation
In 2001, David Stewart, PhD, circulated a questionnaire to over 2000 health practitioners, massage therapists, aroma therapist, and their clients to gain insight on the results that were accruing from Raindrop Technique. He received 422 responses summarizing the experiences of some 14,000 Raindrop Sessions. Of the 422 receivers who responded, they rated their raindrop experience as follows:
Positive - 97%
Pleasant – 98%
Feel better afterwards – 98%
Improved health – 89%
Improved emotional State – 86%
Would receive Raindrop again – 99.9%
Dr David Stewart’s findings are summarized in his booklet, Statistical Validation of Raindrop Technique.
